Miracle Grow for the Brain
Exercise is ‘miracle grow’ for the brain. This according to Dr. John Ratey (author of “Spark: the Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain). Exercise is miracle grow for the brain by keeping brain cells young and healthy. The Prefrontal Cortex (CEO of the brain) is turned on when we exercise. Ratey and his team conducted experiments in a Naperville, IL school district (19,000) students who all exercised 45 min first period each day. Overweight rates were at 3% (National Average is 33%). But also, they scored #1 in Science and #6 in math on global standardized tests. The big takeaway, exercising prior to learning will help you learn and retain new information. Thus, perhaps before that next big meeting or class, you’ll consider exercising first and dumping some ‘miracle grow’ on your brain in the process.
