Don't Steal Someone's Pause
Larry Roper, a nationally recognized student affairs professional and professor emphasized in a talk he gave the importance of “not stealing others’ pauses.” By that he meant, when you are listening to someone, don’t just be eagerly waiting for your turn to talk. Don’t jump in as soon as the person talking to you takes a pause to collect his/her thoughts. Throughout your day today, take note of when someone you’re talking to pauses and do NOT steal his/her pause. Simply wait and listen.
