Want to Change? Do this First!
Have you ever made your mind up to make a change, made the commitment to yourself, even made some progress only to slip right back into your old way of thinking? Shawn Achor, author of the “The Happiness Advantage” states, “If you make a mindset change but don’t create a habit change, you won’t sustain that mindset change.” Thus, work backwards. Commit to a new habit that will help facilitate a sustainable mindset change. For example, if you want to be more optimistic, commit to entering 5 entries every single night before bed into a gratitude journal. What new habit will you commit to today that will lead to a desired change in your mindset?
